Thirteen-year-old Jake Larson has big plans in life to be drafted by the Chicago Cubs, but his dream vanishes when he inadvertently witnesses a hold-up at a Chicago convenience store. Concerned for his family’s safety, Jake’s father decides to leave the city violence behind and move back to rural Minnesota. Despite Jake’s angry protestations, the family moves to Providence River Campground to live and work as the site’s caretakers.
Bitter at the move and his new manual labor responsibilities, Jake soon meets Brian and Peter Owens, a father and son who live on a farm across the river. Jake and Peter form a quick bond that God uses to transform Jake’s life in unimaginable ways. Featuring music from Christian rock bands VOTA, Lightswitch, and Calling Glory, The Current is a coming-of-age family film about friendship, forgiveness, and trusting in God, even in the most difficult of times.
