The Sword

During the Dark Ages, a teen nobleman must use his faith, wits, and an heirloom sword to rescue his sister and defend his family's castle without breaking a promise he made to his father. When southern Gaul is invaded and Garron's father is summoned to fight, the boy is left to ward off the enemy and protect his mother and sister. When his mother falls deathly ill and his sister is abducted, the boy must rely on God's strength and the sword his father entrusted to him to overcome staggering odds or risk losing all that he loves.

Forged during the time of Christ, the sword itself begins as a typical weapon of a prison guard but it becomes a family symbol of unshakable faith. Filled with gallantry and honor, The Sword gives all the glory to God as generation after generation fights to defend its home, family, and faith.

Dove Worldview:

This is a story about the legacy of a sword which is handed down from the historical past to the modern day. It was forged during the time of Jesus. The plot focuses on Garron, a medieval nobleman's son, who finds himself as protector of the family when his father goes off to war.

There are some violent moments in the story, none very bloody, which results in us awarding our Dove Seal to this DVD for ages twelve and above. The themes of family loyalty and a trust in the Lord are nice themes as is the theme of those who go off to war to protect everyone else. In addition the theme of defending one's faith is nicely handled. Watch this DVD with your family soon!

Inspirational Story

Keeping in mind that this was not produced by a polished group of professionals (it was made by a homeschool group), the story still comes through, and it is a good one. It is based around a sword that is handed down from the Philippian jailer to his son, and on through many generations until the present day. I have spoken with Doug Dunklin, the producer of the film, and he tells me that, besides desiring to make some good and exciting entertainment, they wanted to convey the importance of family, multi-generational faith, and good, wholesome virtues.
