The September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and collapse of the World Trade Center claimed nearly 3,000 lives and left a scene of utter destruction in the heart of New York City, causing even the most devout Christians to pause and ask themselves, "Where is God in all this?" Two days into rescue efforts, workers found the answer beneath one of the Twin Towers: two intersecting beams that formed a cross. The location, christened "God's house," became a sanctuary in the midst of sorrow and the inspiration for The Cross and the Towers.
The Cross and the Towers documents the story of seven people who found solace in that stunning symbol of hope and asks the question, "In the middle of your worst nightmare, where do you find hope?" Combining actual footage from 9/11 with realistic reenactments, this documentary gives viewers an unapologetic glimpse of Ground Zero and the people closest to it. The film received five Doves from The Dove Foundation and the Family-Approved Seal for ages 12 and over. Due to its frank content, The Cross and the Towers may not be appropriate for younger viewers. Older audiences will appreciate this moving portrait of a day Americans will never forget.

Dove Worldview:
This documentary, which is the winner of the Audience Choice Award, touched me and moved me. After all, 9-11 is not too far in our distant past. This documentary chronicles the lives of seven fascinating people, who labored with love following our country's severest crisis within our own borders. Meet chaplains, police officers and others who were heroes and inspired others to become involved. In the midst of the rubble and tragedy, learn what was found in a cavern of rubble which renewed many people's hope and restored a faith in God.
The video does use actual footage from 9-11 and some re-enactments. There is some frank talk of the vast numbers of the dead. However, with the heroes spotlighted in this DVD, and the hope which shines in the midst of sorrow, Dove recommends this video for all ages, with an acknowledgment that it might be too intense for the very young. This record of our history, and the subsequent actions of American heroes, should be viewed and remembered by most, so long as they can handle the grief and memories of that fateful day. We award this documentary five doves, the highest level we can give.
