Despite what Adam says, the troubled middle-schooler is not "fine." Not only has he refused to cut his hair in the two years since the death of his mother and sister, but he's also dealing with a depressed dad who prefers to drink his sorrows away. Adam finds support from friends and an open-minded priest who counsels kids on the basketball court, but he faces potential trouble from an enemy, Jerry, who's determined to cut Adam's hair before he enters high school next year.

Adam receives help from some unlikely allies, discovering inner strength with the support of his community along the way. Set in a small, southern California beach town, Clipping Adam is proof of the notion that with the help of family and friends, one can always find his way back home. The cast includes Academy Award winner Louise Fletcher in a supporting role.

Dove Worldview:

The young man's grief, over the loss of his mother and sister in a car accident, is handled with care and respect. His grief was not exploited in the plot. Adam had a lot going for him--he's extremely likable and his vulnerability is protected and cared for by his best friend and this friend's older brother on more than one occasion. Part of the film focuses on Adam coming of age, meeting girls and going to parties and making choices.

There are scenes that any person who's ever dealt with grief, either as an adult or a child, will identify with, and their hearts will possibly be opened to new insights. This film displays many good qualities in dealing with the issue of grief. It is awarded the Dove "Family-Approved" Seal for ages 12+.
